Dependent Status
Dependent Graduates from High School
When a dependent graduates from high school (and is age 19 or older), he or she can remain on the Farm Credit Foundations dental and vision plan if the dependent intends to attend an accredited institution in the fall.
If the dependent is not attending an accredited institution in the fall, his or her dental and/or vision coverage needs to be cancelled. Dental and/or vision coverage ends at the end of the pay period in which the dependent graduates from high school. For example, if graduation is May 13, the dependent’s dental and/or vision coverage would cease May 15, the last day of the pay period.
Dependents are able to remain on the medical plan up to age 26 regardless of student status as long as they do not have access to group medical coverage through their employer.
Farm Credit employees are responsible to notify their Benefits Contact or HR Representative to make the appropriate change.
To make changes to your health care plan:
- Complete a Status Change Form
- The form must be submitted within 31 days from the status change. When you submit the form a copy is sent to your Human Resources or Benefit Contact.
Full-Time Student Status
Full-Time Student Status is determined by the college, university or accredited institution (i.e. does the college considers the student's credit load full-time?).
Accredited Institutions
Accredited Institutions are colleges, universities and/or other institutions that provide higher education and include but are not limited to earning a degree or certification.
